Vertigo
Inner ear contains the Vestibular apparatus which is involved in equilibrium of the body (balance). It consists of the semicircular canals, utricle, saccule and endolymphatic sac and duct. Diseases affecting any of these parts will give rise to peripheral vertigo. There can other causes of vertigo which is caused by diseases of the brain (central nervous system) called Central Vertigo.
The various diseases causing peripheral vertigo are:
- Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
- Meniere's disease
- Labyrinthitis
- Vestibular neuritis
