Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure involving superficial and controlled puncturing of the skin by rolling with miniature fine needles.
Micro punctures are created using microneedles which produce a controlled skin injury without damaging the epidermis. These microinjuries lead to minimal superficial bleeding and set up a wound healing cascade with release of various growth factors. These growth factors help in growth of new collagen and elastin.
The procedure is done after application of local anesthesia cream. Hence the entire procedure is absolutely painless.
Microneedling is done with the help of an "Automated Microneedle machine" which has a removable sterile cartridge. Each sterile cartridge will be used only on one patient, only once and then discarded. This cartridge will have 9-12 thin needles. When connected to the machine, it will make the needles penetrate into the skin at certain depth and stimulate the collagen production. The skin becomes red initially and will get back to normal in 48 - 72 hours.
Multiple sittings (4 to 8) are usually required at 2-3 weeks interval to see good response. Patient will be advised to take Vitamin C supplements for fast and better results, as Vitamin C stimulates collagen production. Post op care will be explained to the patient by the doctor after the procedure.
